Yesterday was such a good Sunday at church, I really learned a lot. There were a lot of good testimonies and good lessons taught in sunday school and Relief Society. One story that was told in Relief Society was called "Toothpaste on the Mirror." It was a short story telling how small offences grow large when we dwell on them. It was a story of a mother who was always after her husband for getting splatters of toothpaste on the mirror when he brushed his teeth. This just drove her absolutely crazy because he would never clean it off. This went on for years and years until he passed away. The wife missed him dearly, more than she imagined. Her lovely daughter came and visited her often and upon her recent visit, her mom just looked horrible. The daughter questioned her grief. The mother explained that as she did her first cleaning after her husband died, there was toothpaste on the mirror. She cleaned the mirror, but on the second cleaning day, there was more toothpaste on the mirror. Same thing happened the third and fourth cleaning day as well. The mom realized that all these years she blamed her husband for splashing toothpaste on the mirror for may years, but it had been both of them this whole time. The mom had been so upset about such a small thing and it put a damper on their relationship.
There was a lot that I learned from this little story. I learned we need to be quick to forgive and how to tolerate small things that dont' really matter in the end. To me it seems like a waste of time to fret on small offences. There are much greater things to worry about than toothpaste on the mirror. It was a good short story with great meaning.
